USA Today had acquired PointRoll
13-06-2005
June 13th, 2005: Last Friday was announced that USA Today had
acquired PointRoll, the rich media provider. The terms of the deal were
not revealed, but many sources estimate the transaction in more than $100
million. Chris Saridakis, PointRoll's COO, is now its CEO, since the former
CEO and PointRoll's founder, Jules Gardner, announced he is leaving the
company.
This is just one more example of traditional publishers getting into
the online business. Scripps 'purchase of comparison-the shopping site
Shopzilla along with The New York Times' acquisitions of About.com are
examples of recent deals. The Financial Times estimates in more than $1
billion this year's public acquisitions of online companies by offline
publishers. Continued growth in online advertising, especially towards
search, is what has brought the interest of media groups in the online
market.
